Do I Have To Sand My Cabinets Before Painting Them

I just purchased paint and primer to paint my kitchen cabinets white.
Do i have to sand my cabinets before painting them. August 9 2017 at 11 35 am. If your cabinets were previously painted and your house was built before 1978 the paint may be lead based. While you don t have to sand before you prime you do need to sand lightly after you prime and between each coat of paint. Sand the finish from the cabinets trim and drawers with 120 grit sandpaper.
If the cabinets are stained or coated with a single layer of clear finish you may not need to use paint stripper. Cleaning the cabinet or furniture thoroughly. Using a bonding primer prior to painting. I am also going to sand them but before i do that is it necessary to clean them since i m going to sand anyway.
My hope is you will see how confident i am in not sanding before painting so you feel that you can do this on your own. They are currently an oak color. If your cabinets are so worn that they need major repairs before painting it might be a sign that you should be replacing them altogether. Even if your cabinets are in near perfect condition you still have to sand them so the paint will stick use sandpaper in the middle of the spectrum 150 or 200 grit is good.
What am i doing before painting to make sure the paint adheres without sanding.
